TOTEM MILIEU SPECIALIST (QMHA):
The Milieu Specialist will provide behavioral health and addiction assessment for purposes of intake to the Adult Mental Health Program. Provides care coordination and crisis intervention as needed for NARA consumers at the Totem Lodge Wellness Program. Works as part of the mental health team and in close collaboration with addictions services, medical services, and other NARA programs. As part of the Totem Lodge Team this clinician understands and applies the Sanctuary and Strength Based Models of care as part of providing specialized milieu support services.
Will provide assessment/screening, and information and referral services for clients seeking Mental Health, Health, and Addictions services at NARA. Provide crisis intervention in collaboration with Team members as needed and assist consumers in learning about and accessing cultural resources and activities. Coordination of care - actively initiates and maintains communication and collaboration with all members of consumer's support system and service team as permitted by the consumer.
TO QUALIFY:
- HS Diploma or equivalent, Must meet requirements to be designated as a QMHA (Qualified Mental Health Associate): A person delivering services under the direct supervision of a QMHP and meeting the following minimum qualifications as documented by Contractor:
- Qualified Mental Health Associate (minimal qualification)
- The competencies necessary to communicate effectively with peers and consumers
- The competencies to understand mental health and addiction assessment , treatment and service terminology and to apply the concepts
- Requires basic knowledge of Bio-Psychological-Social assessment including ability to screen for addiction treatment needs and of treatment plan design and ability to document treatment plans that include strength based focus.
- Must have the ability to collaborate with consumers to develop connection to services. Ability to provide basic motivational interviewing technique(s) to facilitate consumers follow through with treatment plans.
- Requires knowledge and understanding of mental illness, addictions, and physical health and ability to work within an integrated system of care program.
- Must have exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to engage and interact positively with consumers to promote strengths and improve health and well being and to work collaboratively as part of an integrated team to coordinate care.
- Requires flexibility, confidentiality, demonstrated ability and ongoing commitment to the maintenance of professional boundaries w/clients, the community, and other staff members, and the proven ability to work professionally and collaboratively in a fast paced team environment
- Requires excellent computer skills and knowledge and skill working in a multi cultural environment.
- Knowledge of Native American, Alaskan Indian culture and experience working with these populations is preferred.
